Ever since the time of difference between the baby boomers and hippies, there has always been a sense of separation, ranging from morals to lifestyle. As of now, teenagers are detached from the age of their parents. Parents are using the same ways to connect with other people that they did when they were younger. For example, parents are still communicating with their friends using means of phones calls and letters. On the contrary, teenagers are using more technology then ever. Teenagers use the internet as means of communication. Internet is practically their lives. They use the internet for uses like checking grades to playing video games. Not only is technology useful for past time, but it makes everyone connected.
According to teenagers, cell phones are essential. Cell phones are their own little way to know that they don’t have to fight for the house phone anymore and that they have that special little thing that is theirs. What comes along with cell phones is the ability of texting. Last weekend, I witnessed a group of teenagers’ texting. They were not together to hang out, but to text. Not only that, but during memorial weekend, my sister had one of her friends over to play the Wii. During one of the games they were playing, they simply just paused. To do what? They both just sat down and started texting. This shows how much texting is part of teenagers’ lives. Texts are used for numerous reasons. They range from either the person doesn’t want to talk to the other person or it’s simply just easier for them to text. Texting allows teenagers to be closer to each other due to the simplicity of texting. It enables them to talk to their friends that are either 5 feet away or 5 states away. It is true that texting may seem like we are not as connected, but, in fact, we are due to the 18.5 billion texts that people send worldwide. Not only does texting contribute to the gathering of teenagers, but sites like Facebook and Myspace do too.
There are over 70 million active users of Facebook and Myspace has over 100 million users. With those statistics, how are people not able to be connected when they’re a user of one of these websites? Both websites allow you to communicate safely. Not only can you be friends with people that are in your school, but you’re able to be friends with people across the seas. For example, I have cousins that live in England and without Facebook, I wouldn’t be able to talk to them without an expensive phone bill. With this ability, people are able to communicate with people that they wouldn’t be able to without these websites. Another dilemma that has occurred was the lack of awareness that the teenage era has.
Recently, there was a Wii poll that asked if people thought if they were caught up within world affairs and how they were able to catch up. The results came in to be that people thought that they were aware of what was going on in the world and the way that they were able to catch up was with the use of internet. With the many hours that teenagers may spend on the internet doing god knows what, some time is dedicated to seeing what may be going on in this world, may it be the presidential election or the China earthquake. Personally, without the internet, I highly doubt I would be caught up in either event. Instead of sitting in front of the television watching some nonsense show, teenagers find it easier going onto the computer and using sites like Yahoo! or AOL to learn about current events. Elders wonder why it wouldn’t be easier just to read the newspaper, but we respond with why not just use a computer? Truthfully, the internet provides a handful more information that what a measly newspaper can tell you. Not only that, but it can also provide you with an article and a video.
Point blank, teenagers are more connected with the advances of technology. It may seem as if teenagers may be completely out there, but, in reality, we know more then we show. Guaranteed, everyone in the world will be able to use the computer in the next 10 years. When that point comes, the new question will arise to as if the whole population is more connected to the world or not.

43. In your opinion, is Winston a coward when he shouts, “Do it to Julia!”? Why or why not?

coward is a pretty harsh word to describe that time. when someone is put into a situation that is either myself or someone else, nothing goes throught your mind besides what is going to get me out of this. even though winston and julia did have a 'nice' relationship, he knows that it really isnt that significant besides the sex. he knows that he doesnt really like her since she cant even stay up to have a decent conversation with him. since he has all this in his mind, he knows that if he betrayed julia it wasnt really betraying someone THAT important. as for the coward, i dont think he was a coward. he did what he had to do to get himself out of a situation (rats to the face). im pretty sure that if i was in that same exact situation i would rat (lol) her out too...

24. Winston accepts that the Thought Police will catch him. He is a man who analyzes his life. Julia “believed that it was somehow possible to construct a secret world in which you could live as you chose.” She wants to enjoy the moment. Which individual do you relate to the most?

i think i would mostly be related to julia. i want to live life by each day. i hate to have things planned like some people do... my personality feeds off of me being able to do what i want. in a way i'm also like winston since when situations like if i know im goin to get caught, i keep doing it anyways. i pretty carefree in that way, but i think of that as my flaw.

21. Winston is delighted to learn that Julia has been with many men. He hates the Party, so any sign of corruption is thrilling for Winston. Do you think Winston is normal in feeling this way?

since winston is stuck in this world that makes him think a certain way, any sort of rebellion appeals to him. the only type of person that could not be affected by it is a person that is strictly by the rules. personally, i would agree with winston. i wouldnt be able to go through life without thinking about rebellion. the one comparison winston and i have with each other is that we cant be goody two shoes. there is just some thing in peoples minds that needs to be corrupt in some way.

8. People accused of Thoughtcrime disappear. Your name was removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one-time existence was denied and then forgotten. In what sense is the punishment for Thoughtcrime worse than death? Why do you think Winston is willing to risk nonexistence?


mr winston is a very funny guy in my opinion... hes extremely sexually frustrated... he use to have a wife and now shes gone because they couldnt have a baby...what im trying to get as is that guys only think about a certain range of things... food, sleep, anything addictive (ciggs), and sex... everything winston does, he has to do it on the DL... the worst thing is to die without leaving anything behind for someone to admire. winstons job is to erase events and people in books etc so no one can trace back to it for any evidence in the future. winston knows whats really good. when your convicted of a thoughtcrime, they take you at night and your just gone. everything about you is erased. its like you never even lived. when that happens, its like you live a life for nothing. when people die, they have a funeral. some people die and get famous... but in this case, you die but no one knows and practically no one cares. the punishment of thoughtcrime is debasing death.

at this point, i think winston is starting to figure everything out. part of him knows that what hes doing is wrong and that theres more out there then what he has because if he didnt he wouldnt go back to the store where he bought the diary. i dont think he thinks that his life is seriously that important. he consistanly questions himself to the point hes obsessed. for example the girl that slipped him the note that said i love you. he was thinking about her nonstop for a good week until he actually got a chance to talk to her. i think hes at the point where he doesnt really care about his life, but he cares about everyone in the future. im thinkin he'll reveal his hypothesis about how the proles will be able to overrule the current government of the BIG BROTHERRRRRRRRR=]

hey lol u cant read what i wroteeeee (it says hey)

alrightyyy then... i think the fact that we were allowed freedom allowed us to expand our knowledge since we didnt have to listen to a teacher lecture (no offence lennon =]). it allowed us to be able to control what we learn and how we're going to go about things. i learned about a lot of things? lol uhhhh we learned about a lot of things about the book we read (othello). we ranged from motives to symbols. a thing that could be changed would probably have to be the fact that the lesson plans were so loosely taught to us. it would've been nice if we had some sort of uhhh whats it called... template. it took me a while to think of that word... in addition, a positive yet negative aspect was that we could wander off topic without anyone saying anything. students let other student off the hook with a lot of things that a teacher wouldnt. i think that your objectives were to completely control our minds lol im jk. uhh i think that you wanted to give us that freedom to see what we would do with ourselves. since this class is practically the guinea pig of all the rest to come, we get to try out all the cool gadgets and funn stuff to doo before everyone else. it was extremely fun doing this... i feel like we learned more duee to not having to listen to lectures even tho our teachers might've done that... its okay thooo because student teachers just teach about things that matter to themmm and not the wholee dealiooo lol i guess the best way to assess us about what we learned would be a testttt... but no one wants that anywayyy... its all on u LENNONNNN =]
